 2. Where did you go to school or college and why?

1

Watts School of Nursing. Diploma program in Durham, NC, has distinction of being the oldest (and best) program in North Carolina, 114 yrs of producing top-notch nurses. Which is a big reason why I went there. Also the fact that I was an "older student" age 45 when I started and I needed to get in, get out and producing income as soon as possible. I wanted a program that was heavy with hands on clinical time and a program with an excellent reputation and Watts fit the bill.

2

Kennesaw state university- to obtain my BSN

3

Hunter College, NYC

4

Carl Sandburg College - Galesburg, Illinois; University of Illinois-Rock Island Ill Branch; Bradley University-Peoria, Illinois. Reason - Availability at the time

Plus they had limited exposure to the true work (patient care exposure). Interviewing patient at nursing homes, IP at psych centers and blood pressure clinic are not nursing. You didn't see a needle till your last month of your senior year.

I will be taking a couple of classes I need as general ed for my BSN degree from the community college I received my ADN from, but since it is a 2 year school, there are no further nursing degrees possible there. I would take individual classes there if the content was of interest to me or if I wanted some other non-nursing education. With the newly built Cal State San Bernardino satellite campus, there will now be an ADN program at College of the Desert as there has been. In addition, there will be a 4 year classroom and practicum BSN program with the first 2 years at College of the Desert and the remaining 2 years at Cal State, Palm Desert Campus; there is also an RN to BSN online/classroom program at Cal State, PDC. There is also a similar combination MSN program at the same facility. With the new UC Riverside, Palm Desert, there is hope that advanced doctoral education in nursing and healthcare management will be available in the future.

 7. How much was your education and do you feel you got your monies worth?

1

$19,500.00, yes but it was pushing the envelope.

2

I had the HOPE scholarship- without the HOPE, I would have spent 12,000

3

Free (scholarship), so, yes I did.

4

Probably @ 30,000 - pretty independent learning I thought

5

I don't know. The Army paid for my BSN and MS, and I had traineeships for my PhD. I paid fees and some tuition, but never added it all up. I think my education was worth the time and effort I put into it, and also the money I did pay was well spent.

6

? Yes

7

Less than 20K.It was very well worth the money.

8

10,000 yes

9

I wasn't as expensive as others, but it was still costly. The extra outside expenses were costly.

10

Still working on it so not sure how much it will end up costing but I know it’s worth it.

11

less than $1,000 a semester, I definitely got my money's worth

12

Not sure of the cost...Was paid for by a special grant for laid off employees. None the less, even if I had to pay for it I know it was worth it simply because of the opportunity that the education made available.

13

? DON'T REMBER

14

About 10,000 dollars total for the program itself. yes

15

I had the GI Bill to help and minimal student loans. As for a dollar amount I couldn’t say exactly

16

very cheep, and well worth the education

17

17000 and yes got my money's worth

18

24

approx. $8000.00, and yes

25

Taking my pre req at the 4yr catholic college was a waste of time and effort. A community college could have done the same with more respect. The school of nursing traded 3 years of school for 3 years of service. That was worth it, I had experiences in nursing school that have served me to this day. No surprises I saw it, did it or had it explained to me.

26

60,000 not sure

27

$18K very good school private and small

28

yes

29

32

free except for books (back in 1970)

33

I owe $35,000 in student loans for my Bachelor's degree and have just added another $15,000 for this recent graduate degree. I am appreciative of being able to attend college as the cost of being broke. I think tuition is too high of a cost considering how much more we learn on the floor versus a classroom/theory education. I know of many good nurse candidates who will not apply for nurse programs because of the cost and lack of financial support.

34

Free, yes

35

good education, tough instructors

36

I don't remember the cost, my place of employment paid my full tuition. I got more then the moneys worth.

37

I paid approx $250 per credit hour for BSN and 350 per credit hour for MSN. Yes I feel the money was worth it.

20K more or less. The real truth is that when you get out of school you know just enough to be dangerous.

25,000, no needed more info on practice

97

very reasonable. I got my monies worth

98

can't remember; worth it.

99

It was 20 years ago, so I do not remember the exact total cost. I remember that it was cheap, even by 1978-1980 standards. Totally worth it.

100

36000/yr was a hefty price. I got exposure and connections that will last a lifetime. You cannot put a price on networking with nursing pioneers.

101

6k per semesester

102

About $850 per quarter for tuition times six. About $1500 total for books. Yes, I got my money's worth because I passed the nclex.

APROX $1000 TUITION FOR COMPLETE CYCLE PLUS BOOKS ETC...

120

30,000. Yes

125

My Undergraduate was about 50 K and although I am glad I got a degree that allows me to do what I love, I now realize I should have shopped for quality and price instead of convenience

126

I

127

I went to school on the VA Voc. Rehab program. I didn't pay anything. As far as what the government got out of their investment, probably not much. Between my Paramedic Training and Experience and my LPN experience and training, I didn't learn anything new

Several years ago, taken part time, don't really remeber cost. Money's worth, sort of.

209

Total or just for the basic program? The stem is unclear. Wouldn't it be better to rate the quality of the curriculum? I would estimate for the BSN it was in excess of $50k, but that was over 20 years ago. The masters and doctoral degree probably total $120K. Why don't you ask who accredited the program and what level of nursing education (ADN, DIP, or BSN)? That would be more valuable wouldn't it?

222

12,000 and yes

223

The cost for the school was 60,000 of which ultimately, I walked out 30,000 in debt. I made 30,000 more the first year out of school than I had the previous few years before entering school. I would say very few things are worth 30,000 but the earning potential made any RN degree worth while.

224

Was in 1974; they had a discount then to try an increase the nursing population, due to nursing shortage. Got money's worth.

Sure. However, I would be honest. The truth is that nursing is a very difficult career path, especially for a man. To be effective as a nurse, I feel you have to be compassionate, caring, and able to serve others. Add to this the fact that you often have hostile female coworkers, condescending physicians, and hospital administrations that don't appreciate your true worth. Alot of men simply don't meet the above criteria and/or aren't willing to put up with the bullshit. I do try to convey the rewards found in the field, though.
